8 Tips for Overcoming Exhaustion as a Single Parent
Becoming a single parent is not an easy transition. I was used to being married and having two adults in the house, just like you. Even if that second adult isn’t too helpful, it’s still two adults in the house! My change from 2 adults to 1 adult was very sudden. Maybe yours was too. As in, I had one day to adjust to my new reality. My brain could barely process that my marriage was ending, much less the fact I was going to single parent a 2 year old and just turned 4 year old. I was in shock and completely in survival mode. My mind couldn’t even…

Dating is so Fun!…(Until it’s not)
Am I right? I know everyone has had this experience. Everything is great, just sunshine and rainbows. Then suddenly you screech to a halt and go “Wait. What??” Ironically, I thought I knew and understood men. You know, because I was married to one. When I was married, I doled out dating advice like candy to all my single friends….And then lo and behold, I was single again. And suddenly it was new territory, given the last time I dated I was 25 and the year was 2010. Well, now I can eat humble pie (or crow pie?). Not sure about that saying. But the moral of my story is,…

Shoe Review: Dansko Hatty Sneaker
It’s another comfy shoe review coming back at you! I did a video review on my Instagram last week, but in case you don’t follow me over there, I’m bringing it to my blog! White sneakers are all the rage this spring. Probably because they go with everything: jeans, shorts, rompers, dresses, and workout clothing! Most of the shoe brands out there have soles that are as flat as a pancake and will leave your feet, legs, and back screaming in pain after standing on your feet for an hour at Costco. (Because let’s be real here, that’s essentially mom life. Costco plus Target, Sprouts, the playground, etc.) All of…

8 Lessons I’ve Learned as a Single Mom
Well, it’s the last day of 2019, and yes, that’s me on a motorcycle. A Harley Davidson to be specific! There’s a first time for everything, friends! One year ago I was sobbing my eyes out, mourning the loss of my marriage, of my future dreams, and of a life that I felt had been unfairly snatched away from me. So as I look back on the changes that occurred this year, I thought it wise to share what I’ve learned. Don’t sweat the small stuff. I used to worry about things that were honestly, not a huge deal. Worrying over things that didn’t ever come to fruition was a…

An unfortunate reality
“Infidelity threatens our sense of self…A violation of trust.” ~Esther Perel, Rethinking Infidelity, Ted Talk If you have ever watched Esther Perel’s Ted Talk, you may remember this quote. She tells us that affairs in the past were discovered by “a receipt in the pants pocket, or lipstick on the collar”. Yet now, the discovery of an affair is usually through technology. And what ensues is a digital trail of emails, text messages, and pictures, that span the length of the affair and reveal the intimate thoughts of both people involved. It is truly what she calls “death by a thousand cuts”. Almost a year ago, I discovered my husband’s…

A Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing
Is honesty important to you? It is to me. So sometimes I scratch my head and wonder how I didn’t see the web of lies that complicated my marriage for years. In hindsight, I see so much more. But when you are standing in the middle of something, your view is skewed, and it’s almost impossible to see the truth for what it is. False information. Made up stories. Excuses. It’s hard to fit the puzzle pieces together because they don’t fit. Lies built up on more lies. You know the saying, a wolf in sheep’s clothing? It’s pretty accurate….Yes, liars can portray themselves as the most honest, charming, stand…

Are you letting fear interfere?
Don’t let the fear of falling (or failing) stop you! I took my two children to family camp with our church this past weekend and it was a great learning experience for all of us. The kids had a blast running around our cabin with 6 other kids, they grew in their faith, they canoed, made candles, drank endless cups of hot chocolate, and my daughter climbed the tallest rock climbing wall I’d ever seen! She had excitedly talked about it all week, but then changed her mind after putting on the helmet and harness. After sitting and watching everyone else for 10 minutes, she changed her mind again and…
